Privacy Policy for Sip

This Privacy Policy describes how Sip (“the app”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use our mobile application. Sip is operated by Kevin Liang, an individual developer based in the canton of Zug, Switzerland.

We’ve tried to write this in plain language. If anything is unclear, email us at kevin.liang1995.ai@gmail.com and we’ll explain.

The short version

Sip stores your water logs, your goal, and your settings only on your own device. We do not have a server. We do not have user accounts. We do not collect your name, email, location, or any personally identifying information. We cannot see what you log, and we have no way to access your data even if we wanted to.

The only exceptions to “we collect nothing” are described below, and they all involve third-party services that may be added to the app in the future (advertising and optional analytics). When and if those are enabled, this policy will continue to apply.

What data Sip stores on your device

When you use Sip, the following information is saved locally on your phone:

• The drinks you log (type, amount, and timestamp)
• Your daily water goal
• Your settings (units, notification preferences, etc.)
• Internal flags the app needs to function (for example, whether you’ve already seen a warning today)

This information lives only on your device. It is not transmitted to us, to any server we control, or to any third party. If you uninstall the app, this information is deleted.

What data Sip does NOT collect

To be explicit: Sip does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

• Your name, email address, or contact details
• Your phone number or device ID
• Your precise or approximate location
• Your contacts, photos, or other phone content
• Your IP address (we have no server to receive it)
• Health or fitness data from Apple Health, Google Fit, or any other source

Sip does not require an account, and there is no login.

Notifications

Sip uses local notifications to remind you to drink water. These notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device by your operating system. No notification content is sent through any external server. You can disable notifications at any time in the app’s Settings or in your phone’s system settings.

Advertising (planned future feature)

Sip may, in a future version, display advertisements provided by Google AdMob. When this is enabled:

• AdMob collects information needed to deliver advertisements, which may include your device’s advertising identifier, general location (country/region level), device type, and limited usage information about ad interactions.
• This data is collected and processed by Google according to Google’s Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) and Google’s advertising-specific terms.
• We do not receive personally identifying information from AdMob about you.
• You can limit ad personalization in your phone’s system settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising; Android: Settings → Google → Ads).

If and when ads are enabled, the app will request any consent required by your region’s laws (for example, the EU’s GDPR consent for personalized ads). This Privacy Policy will be updated with the exact date ads are enabled.

Analytics (possibly, in the future)

We may, in a future version, add a privacy-respecting analytics service such as Plausible Analytics to understand basic usage patterns of the app (for example, how many people open the History screen). If we do:

• The analytics service we choose will not use cookies or tracking pixels.
• It will not collect personal information.
• It will not build profiles of individual users.
• It will only record aggregate, anonymous usage events (e.g., “screen viewed” without any identifier of who viewed it).

If analytics are added, this Privacy Policy will be updated to reflect exactly which service is used and what it tracks.

Your rights under European data protection law

Even though Sip does not collect personal data from you, the GDPR and the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) give you the following rights, which we respect:

• The right to know what data is processed about you (answer: none, on our side)
• The right to access any personal data we hold (answer: we hold none)
• The right to have inaccurate data corrected
• The right to have your data deleted (uninstalling the app deletes all of it)
• The right to restrict or object to processing
• The right to data portability
• The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in Switzerland: the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner, www.edoeb.admin.ch)

Children’s privacy

Sip is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. Because Sip does not collect personal information from any user, this rarely matters in practice — but if you believe a child has somehow provided information to us, please contact us and we’ll address it.

International users

Sip is available worldwide via the App Store and Google Play. The developer is based in Switzerland, and the legal jurisdiction for any matters relating to this policy is Switzerland (canton of Zug). By using the app, you understand that any limited processing of data described above is governed by Swiss and applicable European law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, particularly when we add new features such as ads or analytics. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this document. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes when the update ships. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
